The Tree Guide has over 300 species to choose from, helping people in the Metro Vancouver region find the right tree for the right location. This guide is part of a suite of resources to assess the risks and predicted changes to the region's urban forest as a result of climate change, helping inform decision-making in the region. When using this guide, please apply professional judgement when selecting tree species for a project.
Value of trees
Healthy trees provide communities with important ecosystem services, including shading and cooling, rainwater absorption, carbon sequestration, and wildlife habitat, in addition to improving community resilience to climate change, and overall human health and wellbeing.
Our region's urban forest
Collectively, the trees within the public and private lands of a community make up the urban forest. Since 2016, Metro Vancouver has supported local urban forestry efforts across the region by providing data and resources, convening practitioners, and advocating for innovative approaches that improve the health and resilience of the region's urban forests.
